With a rigorous mathematical foundation and high computational skill one can design any real life problem in the form of a mathematical model and solve it to achieve the goals. As per the need of highly competent graduates who have sound mathematical knowledge and computational skills to deal with complex problems arising in all sorts of disciplines such as Science, Engineering, Technology and Medical Research, Financial & Banking institutions and product-based industries in Nepal, the Department of Mathematics, Kathmandu University (KU) has started an interdisciplinary undergraduate program B.Sc. in Computational Mathematics from 2017 first time in Nepal. The students who have completed undergraduate programs from Science and Engineering background are seeking for higher level education in the country. There are a number of students who have engineering or Computer Science & Engineering background are found to be interested to acquire and develop their high-level mathematical knowledge for the academic and professional career. The students with B. Sc. degrees with enough mathematical background would like to pursue and develop the computational skills in higher level degree. To address the desire of above-mentioned students, the Department of Mathematics, KU has planned to introduce a 2 Years (Four Semesters) Master Degree Program M. Sc. in Computational Mathematics. This program will prepare the students to refine their capabilities in applying mathematical tools as well as computational skills to study a wide range of problems arising in academia, industry and technology with an emphasis on developing and implementing computing solutions. This program leads to mainly into two streamlines: Mathematics Computing and Data Science.
